Early in life, much of Reuben’s time was spent chasing birds and small game with his father. This, along with his participation and involvement with Boy Scouts really honed Reuben’s skills and helped mold him into the passionate outdoorsman he is today. Pursuing deer, turkey, and predators, Reuben became fanatical about improving his calling skills and seeking the “thrill of the chase.” Hunting with friends and family became an obsession.
As Reuben gradually became more proficient at game calling, he found that enticing his quarry into range for others gave him much satisfaction. Reuben experienced an unparalleled joy when those hunting with him experienced success; especially those harvesting an animal for the first time.
Reuben’s efforts in preserving our hunting heritage led him to join, “Pass It On!-Outdoor Mentors Program” which focused on introducing young people to the outdoors. As a skilled hunting guide, Reuben makes it a priority to guide several kids every year as they begin learning the ways of the wild. His participation in that organization continues to be an important part of his life.
Just recently, Reuben introduced his wife, Cassie, into the world of hunting. Until that time, she had never really understood his need to take others and spend countless hours in the outdoors. She took to hunting like a duck to water and has made their family stronger than ever. Reuben and Cassie reside in Central Kansas and are teaching their two children, Cora (7), and William (5), in the ways of the outdoors; raising them to appreciate hunting and recognize how important it is to give others the same opportunities they have.
